        The Tenth Anual (sic) "Burgin-Lytle Reunion" met at Bethel Methodist

Church July 21, 1940. The meeting was called to order By the President Alvis Lytle, and the Congregation joined in singing "Blest Be The Tie That Binds". The Invocation was given By Henry Burgin. Special Music By the Lytle quartet. The adress (sic) of Welcome was given By Grady Burgin. We were then favored with more special singing By The Lytle quartet No 2 and the Bost quartet. Rev. James Alred spoke on "Why Have a Reunion?" After special singing By The Drake Sisters, The Lytle and Burgin quartets, and a trio from Asheville we ajourned (sic) for lunch. A bountiful lunch was spread on tables below the Church. We Asembeled (sic) again at 1 "30 0'clock. During the afternoon special musice (sic) was rendered By The Burgin and Lytle quartets, The Drake Sisters, a trio from Asheville and one from Marion, and Duets By Joyce and Dot

Bost. The greetings from absent Kinsmen and the minutes were read and Out-of-County Visitors recognized By the Secretary. Dropped Stitches in the Burgin-Lytle History was rendered By different members of the groupe (sic). All the officers were relected (sic) for the next year. Members of the groupe (sic) offered a resolution of respect and love to those who had passed away since the last reunion which was voted by the groupe (sic) as follows.

 

        At this time we would like to offer a resolution of respect and love to our departed Brothers and freinds (sic) who have passed off the stage of action since our last reunion to a land from which no man returns but awaits for the final reunion. Last year at this time we were shaking hands and having delightful fellowship with the following Brothers: F. A. Burgin of Waynesville, Thomas Tommie Burgin of Marion, George L. Lytle of Swananoa, and Thomas Lytle of Fairview. Some of the finest freinds (sic) and loved ones that met with us in our anual (sic) reunion. Though they are with us no more in the flesh Their spirits and the fruits of their labors linger with us still. May the good Lord so help us who remain on earth's side of eturnity (sic) to Carry on the high exalted standards of love and freindship (sic) which were planted in their imortal (sic) souls. May we say of our departed Brothers Let their glorious memories be embodied in every ones memory here to day. After a congregational song and a prayer the groupe (sic) went to the Cematory (sic) for the unveiling of a marker at the grave of Captain Thomas Lytle, Revolutionary War officer and soldier conducted By Greenlee Chapter Daughters of American Revolution. The marker was unveiled By - Shirley Ann and Thomas Lytle, and Joan Allen - Children of the 7th generation Barbra Elliott and Francis Smith Children of the 8th generation.

 

        The Reunion was scheduled to be held next year at the same time and place.
